  • Bournemouth V Manchester United (1957)

    Manchester United beats Bournemouth 2-1 in FA Cup 6th round football match. Bournemouth, Dorset. Start of the FA (Football Association) Cup 6th round football match between Bournemouth and Manchester United. GV. Players lined up for the kick off. Manchester United kick off. Playing from left to right against Bournemouth playing from right to left. Bournemouth all in white. General play. McGuinness pushes the ball up-field to a United player who collects it and gets on the move. SV. Godwin waiting in his goal. LV. Bournemouth goal area, ball comes over, John Berry tries a header but Godwin gathers safely and clears up field. CU. Woman in crowd. GV. Pan as the ball again comes into the Bournemouth goal area but is headed away. Stanley Newsham helps it down field with his head to clear the lines. As the ball goes towards the middle, Newsham runs on and beats Eddie Colman to the ball to help it on its way to start Bournemouth attack. LV. Stiffle with the ball. He pushes it out to Ollie Norris who shoots. Ray Wood smothers it for a corner to Bournemouth. This is the correct shot that caused the corner. CU. Cheering men in crowd. LV. Stiffle takes a corner kick. Ball comes across into the Manchester United goal area. SV. Ball coming in, Manchester appealing for the ball. Wood knocks it against the bar but Brian Bedford dashes in and heads it into the goal and jumps for joy. GV. Bedford runs away waving his arms with joy. GV. Crowd cheering. GV. Bournemouth on the move again. A quick pass-through from Stiffle finds Newsham who shoots, but Wood smothers the ball to save a nasty situation. CU. Man pulling faces in crowd. Half Time. Bournemouth 1 Manchester United 0. GV. Bournemouth goal area, ball running loose and a United player chasing it. He collects it and starts to bring the ball back towards the Bournemouth goal mouth. LV. Ball is slipped through to John Berry. He runs onto it and scores with ease - Bournemouth appeal for offside unsuccessfully. Ball in net. GV. Manchester United players congratulating each other. Score 1-1. SV. Crowd. Some people cheer for United. LV. Bournemouth player is trying to get past and Viollet brings him down just outside the Manchester area. CU. Small boy in crowd winces. LV. Bournemouth take their free kick. The ball comes into the United area where Wood jumps and punches clear. LV. Colman with the ball trying to set the United going. Kicks up field but is headed back and Colman collects it again and starts to run on. Michael Lyons gives him the most polite push in the back. It sends him flying and Lyons comes away with the ball and jabs a short pass. LV. Bournemouth player with the ball on the half way line running through, flicks it to Lewis Clayton who collects, runs on and shoots at the goal but the ball goes wide. CU. Man in crowd holding his head. BV. Wood runs to take goal kick. Kicks up-field. GV. Berry gets past a couple of Bournemouth men. He beats another one and is tackled by the next - Clayton. LV. Berry shakes off Clayton and shoots. Godwin parries the shot and it goes loose where a United man crosses it into the goal area. Another United man heads it but it is handled near the goal line and United appeal for a penalty. GV. United players with their hands up and the referee is pointing to the spot. SCU. Sad boy in crowd. LV. John Berry runs to take spot kick. Ball in back of net. Manchester United are through. Pan with happy players. Final score Manchester United 2 - Bournemouth 1.

    Boy Scouts build stables and hut for army near Winchester. Title reads: "HANDY BOY SCOUTS build huts and stables for Kitchener's Army near Winchester". Winchester, Hampshire. Pan on scene of boys working on long building with frame near completion, some of the boys are up on top, others on the ground. Boys pushing a small cart along a track. MS boys loading pipes onto it, then running as they push it back. The Scouts put up pieces of corrugated metal (to be walls of the building?). Then they lift what looks like 2 half-cylinders side by side and put these onto a long frame of an incomplete building so that they form 2 long troughs about chest-high, probably for the stable.   • Camera Interviews - The Steeplejack (1933)

    Probably unusable item about Salisbury Cathedral steeplejacks - very bad decomposition. "Not everybody would choose to tackle this kind of high life business" L/S of a large cathedral - framed inside an oval mask (bad decomposition on this shot). Camera tilts up to show spire of cathedral. "This is the 400 foot spire of the Salisbury Cathedral - highest in England - and hardly the nicest of spots to perch even a temporary nest - " Low angle shot of the spire - steeplejack just visible. "But, what a view of Salisbury! (and what a slender nervy platform to film from!)" Short shot - badly decomposed. Was an item in Eve's Film Review issue number 609. Note: very, very badly decomposed - probably unusable
