Steve Humphrey recalls how Southsea greengrocer Alec Rose sailed single handedly around the world in 1967, returning the next year to a hero's welcome and a knighthood. 🎬British Movietone - It's the Westland SRN2 again for the first public demonstration over the Solent. Mr Peter Lamb, Chief Test Pilot for Saunders Roe was at the controls, and it wasn't long before the latest "Hoverbus" was bidding up to 60 miles an hour. She can carry up to 66 passengers, and the verdict, a very comfortable ride, with no more than slight pitch and roll. A number of American Naval experts were on this trip. So was the hovercraft's designer.
