🎬British Pathé – Wild Dartmoor ponies are rounded up. Devon. Although not filmed in The New Forest, it is a window on the practices of the time: A Dartmoor Study. "Every year a "drift" (or round-up) of the famous Dartmoor ponies takes place - and hundreds are collected." L/Ss of horses trotting across the moors. "The riders, who are mainly the owners of the animals, carry out the round-up - and a hard-riding job it is - " Riders trot away from the camera across the moors. M/S of wild horses run across a little bridge. High angle shot of riders coming down a hill with the wild horses being herded ahead of them. Various shots of the horses being herded. 🎬Pine martens are extremely rare in Britain. But, this is the second time anyone has filmed a sighting in the New Forest - with one first caught on camera in 2016.
The mammals are elusive members of the weasel family. Experts say pine martens were widespread throughout the country but their numbers began declining in the south around 200 years ago due to habitat loss and predator control measures.

Full titles read: "FEATHERED 'LIGHTENING' - Hundreds of London's best flying pigeons released." L/S long row of baskets of pigeons in the street being prepared for release. A man pours some water into a tray in on basket. C/U of man holding a pigeon while another uses a ringing device on it's leg. C/U of the pigeon. L/S of the pigeon owner opening the baskets and with a flurry of feathers the pigeons burst out and fly away.

🎬British Movietone - It's the Westland SRN2 again for the first public demonstration over the Solent. Mr Peter Lamb, Chief Test Pilot for Saunders Roe was at the controls, and it wasn't long before the latest "Hoverbus" was bidding up to 60 miles an hour. She can carry up to 66 passengers, and the verdict, a very comfortable ride, with no more than slight pitch and roll. A number of American Naval experts were on this trip. So was the hovercraft's designer.
British Movietone News ran in the United Kingdom from 1929 to 1986.
