WILDCAM 2009          NEW FOREST GOSHAWK

VIDEO ON DEMAND (VOD)

The Video Player above should now work on the following browsers:
Internet Explorer / Firefox / Google Chrome / Safari / Opera

How to use this player:
If the video does not start automatically, press "Play
", the earliest time available will start immediately. Using the other controls, you can then navigate forwards and backwards. The player above should have the following controls:

Navigation Slider - Play/Pause - Stop - Previous - Rewind - Fast Forward - Next.

Operation and control is exactly like a domestic video recorder or DVD player. Use your computer mouse to operate the buttons or drag the Navigation Slider.
Below the player is an indication of the current position and length of each video file: For example 00:00 / 10:23:13 = 10hours 23mins long. The "Next " button will therefore move you 10 hours 23 minutes forward to the next available period.

The time display is actual time (BST). Therefore
10:23:13 = 10.23am.

If the screen appears blank or black, it may be night. There is no artificial lighting on the nest so navigate to daylight hours.

Please note, The control layout may differ depending on your computer's version of "Windows Media Player", visit Microsoft Windows Media for the latest player information.

Apple Mac Computers may require Flip4Mac.

(Exact Times *)

(Part 1)
05:55* F rises from B/I facing 8, rouses, pecks at nest substrate. Hawklets visible briefly. F settles back down to B/I facing 8.

05:59* M arrives to loud whistle like vocalization from F then exits via 9.

06:01* M arrives from 9. F loud whistle vocalizing while M stands over her at 9. F partially rises to reveal hawklets. M leaves via 9. (Hawklets are learning/conditioning to vocalizations mean food.) No food so hawklets tuck down to be brooded. Appears to be raining.

06:06* M arrives to F loud whistle vocalizations. M made food drop just off camera on nest edge.

06:08* F rises and begins feeding hawklets. One egg visible near 12 of nest bowl. Hawklets being given tidbits about 2X size of their first feedings. Crops are filling. Feeding lasts 10 minutes.

06:17* F removes prey via 9. Hawklets huddle together for warmth with necks wrapped together. Hawklets fall into a food induced stupor.

06:21* F returns and proceeds to shuffle into B/I facing 3. Hawklets would be a little damp (first down is a reasonable insulator). Very windy. No other forest noises can be heard over the wind.

07:09 F still B/I facing 2.

10:33 Mr G flies in. (terribly windy) Mrs G 'kahs' very loudly at him and he flies of.

10:46* THIRD EGG HATCHES.
As Mrs G attempts to feed the chicks, it is a battle against the high wind. Meanwhile in the background the third egg hatches.

10:59 goshawk calls ( probably to reassure hawklets alone in high wind on nest). 11:01 she lands back, pecks around hawklets and settles facing 6.

11:15 - 12:00 NO VIDEO

(Part 2)
13:15* (01:15) A gust of wind lifts Mrs G right out of the nest which flips the chicks onto their backs, she quickly returns.

16:54 (04:54) Mr G arrives. Loud vocalisations from Mrs G.

17:02* (05:02) Mrs G feeding prey to little ones (goes on until 17:17).

17:17 (05:17) Mrs G flies back, feeds them another small tidbit and settles on them facing 12.

17:30 (05:30) Mr G flies in behind Mrs G at 6 again loud vocalisations from female and he flies off without a sound.

20:00 (08:00) Mum has brought in quite a large prey. All chicks sitting and begging.
