Mrs. G just stood up and I saw TWO little 'wobbly' chicks. It is getting dark now so I suppose we will have to wait 'til morning!!!!!

From: meganvol 18/05/2009 21:02

What a tragedy if what Meganvol thinks what has happened. I can't bear this news: me and this little family have had a good day today and we think the 4th. chick has hatched.
Am just looking at Mrs.G now and I think I can see two "feet" (Talons) to the left of Mum.

still cheeping!!!

From: meganvol 18/05/2009 20:41

I must have been mistaken...there must on;ly be one under her...the distressed cheeping has stopped and the other one is dead....I was so hoping the foot at the front belonged to prey but I don't think so...it looked white and fluffy when the male moved it.

From: meganvol 18/05/2009 20:17

I can still hear one but i think one is dead...at the front of the nest the male just came in and moved it

From: meganvol 18/05/2009 20:15

Oh NO

From: meganvol 18/05/2009 20:12

this is heartstopping! The female just had some prey delivered bu the babies climbed out of the nest to feed!..she returned to the nest, tried to brood the remaining egg, was obviously concerned about the babies...she eventually climbed up and tried to brood them on the edge of the nest but ony one appears to have got back in and is now underneath her,,,now another has climbed in but I can still hear the third...hes outside on the nest edge somewhere

19:45 NFG Has the web cam got blown off to the right ?- hawklets are to the left just of camera. I think the lense has been altered - but too close up - so they are off camera.

MEGANVOL.....smallest chick has had fair amount twice today but can't help feeling sorry for it when it gets nothing.
COCO...I am sure I saw a tiny, tiny face at 1pm. today and Mrs. G was poking at nest the way she did when the others were hatching...so until it finds its 'feet' we will have to be patient.

17:52 Mr G looked as if he were about to take up his turn on the nest when Mrs G interupted him ( she vocalised to him softly). Did I see some prey in her beak?
Just before Mr G arrived the 3 white hawklets were at the front of the nest. I thought I saw a VERY tiny face in the back of the nest. Did anyone else see that, or am I dreaming?

5.40...teatime and two oldest chicks got lions share, wee one got nothing at this feed. He/she did try to push through but other two so close together baby couldn't get in. At least I have seen it getting a fair amount today.
5.50pm...Mrs G flew off to finish the prey.
5.51....Mr. G managed to get time (1min) with chicks, he looked at them and from his behaviour it looked like he wanted to do a spot of brooding.
5.52...Mrs G back and now brooding. I think the wind is dying down now, I do hope so and they have better weather tomorrow.

I'm watching a feeding at 17:14 and seeing only 3 hawklets.

NFG: Just for information purposes I actually posted one of Coco's posts yesterday; have needed to repost my own posts several times to get them on the Blog and it would appear a double post was likely the result of submission issues that still exist. I can almost be certain when a submission is not going to appear because the writing window disappears completely after submitting. Bill

mr g came to inspect the hawklets:)...mrs G called to him and he left...she has returned and is brooding but smallest still hasn't had a feed

From: meganvol 18/05/2009 17:52

Male finally come to bring prey but mrs G only fed larger hawklets,,,by the time the smallest managed to get round to the front she was feeding herself and then she left!

5pm. Mrs.G having a good preen, tidying up the nest and adding greenery. Two little heads popped up and 'Mum' just looked at them a few times.
This is facinating

From: Raptorman 18/05/2009 15:41

I think hawklets peck at greenery and twigs (actually many things) as they are unsure what is food at this stage. They only digest meat but will occasionally ingest other things but can't digest them. Most end up as part of the casting. Some are spit out immediately. Bill
