THE NAMES HAVE BEEN CHOSEN:

DENNY & FURZEY

Thanks to everyone that took the time to think of names

As the two goshawk chicks grow,
they are starting to develop their own personalities.
So what better time to give them names?

We are looking for suggestions. We would like these suggestions to reflect The New Forest in some way. So if you have an idea for both or even just one of the chicks take part in this forum. The New Forest is famous for many things such as the extensive heathland, gorse bushes, the Knightwood Oak, the Rufus stone, or what about the forest rights.... etc etc, we think you know where we are going with this. Get the thinking caps on and have a go....

Names will be chosen from the suggestions on the 12th June.

How to post your suggestion:
1/     "Reply" to this post.
2/     ENTER THE NAME IN CAPITALS.
3/     Give a description of its New Forest connection, or why you like the name.
4/     Click on "Update" at the bottom of the page.

Thanks,
NFG

CLAY

Clay Hill is an area just south of Lyndhurst, I've been there a few times to see the dogsled racing, which brings back happy memories.

MARL

I believe is one of the commoners rights, it is something to do with digging out lime for building and fertilizing the land. I fancied "Mast" but it does sound like something BT would erect

Boldre - Another village in the New Forest, plus reminds me how the chicks get bolder (another spelling I know) on the nest as they grow.

PS. (For those who may not know the story)

EDWARD & EDITH were two of the children saved and protected by a forester in a story set in the New Forest at the time of the English Civil War.

ALICE and KING.

How about ALICE after Alice Liddell of Alice in Wonderland and the Lyndhurst connection also KING for all the kings involved in the forest in the past.

BELLE after the 'Bournemouth Belle' a steam train that ran through the forest daily many years ago.

GYPSY with it's connection with the forest.

YTENE

It's the Anglo-Saxon name for the New Forest, and has a nicely unisex sound so it should suit either chick.
