Hello,

 

I'm getting an error message when I try and view the webcam,

 

Error opening mms://wms.carnyxlive.co.uk/newforest

Message: 4001 an error has occurred

Does anyone have any idea what might be going wrong please? Microsoft Silverlight is installed.

All other webcams e.g. Derby Peregrines, Loch Garten Ospreys etc all seem to work fine?

 Hello Nigel,

 
This error code covers a lot of possible causes, but in essence it means a network error. I.E. Your player cannot access the stream. The most common cause is some restriction in your firewall setup. Firewalls can block certain types of files and certain applications. In particular business networks may block streaming media, however if you are able to access Loch Garten this is probably not an issue.
 
There is an embedded windows media player on this page, which you could try:
 
I can assure you that the stream is okay in the Silverlight player, so it makes sense that it is some form of restriction on your computer. Sorry not to have a definitive answer.

Hi Peter, thanks for the reply. I'll have a dig around the firewall settings etc. If I find the answer I'll post it in this thread.

Well, I've turned the Windows firewall off completely and still get error 4001 so I guess it's not that.

Thanks for providing media player and silverlight links to the webcam (10.10 7/4/2010).

Both links seem to point back to the page you are already on though?

 Both players are on the page, by clicking the one you want it simply opens a window etc.

Thanks, seems to be working ok with me now. Thanks very much for your efforts, I'm sure I speak for most people when I say it's terrific to be able to watch the behaviour and comings and goings of this magnificent bird!
