I know we all talk about the seasons being topsy turvy these days, but i have found a second clump of primrose in full bloom. [18/11/09]. Found the first 1 in bloom on last new years day. It looked brilliant today surrounded by a mass of oak leaves of many shades. Anyone else noticed anything out of the ordinary. [i have also heard great tit in full springsong] all the best stan

I was walking the dogs on the forest near Hale last week and was sure I saw two Swallows chasing each other accross the heath. I see them quite often over the summer months, but was not sure. On Autumnwatch they mentioned Swallows being spotted around the country.

Some plants will still flower until the frosts hit them.  Primroses are early
spring flowers anyway so are used to flowering in the cold.
As for the birds, there are a few you will hear sing on the odd occasion during
winter: Great Tits, Song Thrushes, Mistle Thrushes, Goldcrest for example.

Thanks is, been in farming for over 45 yrs so get used to odd plants flowering out of season, but the primrose in its wild habitat usually dies back to perhaps one or two leaves then virtually dissappears until after new year unlike its cultivated counterpart.

The bit that threw me was the great tit,  quite a difference between the song they sing april  may than the tune they sing later perhaps after mating .

Great Tits usual song is the two note "teacher", but they have a whole armoury of other call notes.
