THE NEW FOREST FROM THE AIR

Below are some remarkable aerials taken by the Luftwaffe during the Second World War and Get Mapping in year 2000.

Although the aerial photos below were taken with different cameras at different heights and particularly at different angles we have managed to match them precisely. They show a remarkable contrast between 1940 and 2000.

The images are reproduced from copyright material: 1940 - Forestry Commission, 2000 - Get Mapping.

Two aerial photographs of Hythe, Southampton's old docks clearly visible at the top.

Hythe close-up shows the transformation....village to town in under 60 years.

Netley Marsh & Willswood Farm. To the right, birth of a new town.

Today, only the new by-pass separates Totton from Netley Marsh.

Age of steam. The Brockenhurst of 1940 is already a thriving community.
